As acting director in 2011, Bench led the response to the flooding of the Missouri River and its subsequent rebuilding.
Omaha mayor Jean Stothert has asked acting Parks Director Brook Bench to take on full responsibilities in the department.
Bench had been serving as acting director since 2011. During that time, he led the response to the flooding of the Missouri River and its subsequent rebuilding.
Before that, he served as parks maintenance manager.
He'll continue to oversee a number of projects in the city, including the revamping of the Gene Leahy Mall downtown. His annual salary will be $100,000, less than his predecessor made. That's in line with Mayor Stothert's promise to keep expenses in check.
