The agreement is null and void in the view of the Mayor, and McDonnell remains on paid administrative leave
The retirement deal between former Omaha Fire Chief Mike McDonnell and the Stothert Administration is off, according to the Mayor's Office.
Earlier this month, the Mayor and the Chief had announced a memorandum of understanding outlining his retirement. The deadline to finalize that document was 4:30 Friday afternoon.
However, the administration says McDonnell demanded language be inserted that was outside the scope of the agreement and inappropriate for inclusion. Thus, the agreement is null and void in the view of the Mayor, and McDonnell remains on paid administrative leave.
Bernie Kanger remains interim Omaha Fire Chief.
