Omaha drivers will experience detours and alternate routes beginning Monday
The road work will begin Monday morning between 52nd Street and Turner Blvd. The $2.5 million project is being paid for with state road maintainence money.
City officials say the the first phase of work will consist of resurfacing the eastbound lanes of Dodge. Traffic will be transitioned into one lane in each direction on the north half of Dodge.
Once the eastbound lanes are complete, traffic will be switched over to the new asphalt, one lane in each direction. Then the westbound lanes will be resurfaced.
Drivers will not be able to make left turns at the intersections and left turns into businesses and driveways will be allowed when possible.
The city on Tuesday provided this list of alternate routes to help drivers get around the construction:
Interstate 80 to Interstate 480
Farnam Street onto Harney
Interstate 480 to 80
St. Marys to Leavenworth
Mayor Jean Stothert said, "We have worked with contractors, METRO Transit and Omaha Police and Fire to take every precaution to make travel on Dodge Street safe during construction."
METRO Transit will detour buses away from the construction while the work is in progress.
"Starting today, Rider Alerts will be available on every bus so our passengers are aware of these temporary changes," said METRO Executive Director Curt Simon.
