A fiery crash involving a semi on I-80 claimed two lives and closed a portion of the Interstate near Lincoln for nearly an hour and a half on Wednesday
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a fiery semitrailer truck crash that killed two people and blocked Interstate 80 near Lincoln for more than an hour on Wednesday.
The crash happened northwest of Lincoln near the Northwest 48th Street exit around noon Wednesday.
Investigators say it appears the semi was eastbound on I-80 when it struck a guardrail, went down an embankment, landed upright on the on-ramp and caught fire.
According to the trucking company, U.S. Express from Chattanooga, Tennesseee, the semi was hauling dry goods and was being driven by a husband and wife from East Canton, Ohio.
The names of the male and female killed in the crash are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The crash closed a portion of eastbound I-80 for approximately an hour and a half. Westbound lanes were closed for a short period due to heavy smoke from the fire.
