Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman has promised to veto a bill that would restore taxpayer-funded prenatal care coverage for illegal immigrants.

Heineman said Wednesday that this year's legislative session will be remembered as one that gave preference to illegal immigrants, unless lawmakers reverse course.
Heineman singled out Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood for his "yes'' vote on that bill, and another that would let cities increase sales taxes by as much as a half-cent with voter approval.
Flood says his vote on the prenatal care bill reflects his consistent pro-life views. He says he has supported efforts to restrict other benefits to illegal immigrants.
Flood says the sales tax bill would require voter support and a super-majority of the local city council to raise taxes.
