Children abandoned at Nebraska hospitals are now living with relatives, put in foster care or admitted to hospitals. Newsradio 1110 KFAB is providing this page as one of many resources to families in crisis, who might feel they have no other alternative but to surrender their children at hospitals under the state's "Safe Haven" law. Legislators have set up a task force to discuss changing the state's unique "Safe Haven" law, enacted in July, which allows parents or guardians to leave children younger than 18 at a hospital without having to explain why. All states have safe-haven laws, but the rest cover only infants younger than 1 year old.
