Just received from the Omaha Police Dept.:
On Monday, December 17, 2012 the Omaha Police Department was notified about an on-line post with an implied threat to the Omaha area. The anonymous post to an on-line chat site stated, “Omaha NE. Watch the news. 9 am. Tomorrow. Big things.” The threat was non-specific but still concerning.
Homicide detectives worked diligently through the night and were able to locate the person who made the post.
After further investigation, detectives believe that Mr. Gustafson is potentially a threat to himself or others therefore he was placed into emergency protective custody for further mental evaluation.
In light of the recent tragedy in Newtown, CT, the Omaha Police Department reached out to local school districts and made them aware of the implied threat. We work very closely with our local school districts and share information regarding potential safety issues with each other to make our schools as safe as they can be.
The Omaha Police Department takes any threat or implied threat very seriously. We will look into every threat and we will hold people responsible for their actions. Criminal charges will be made on a case by case basis. At this time, no criminal charges will be filed on Mr. Gustafson.
There have been numerous rumors today regarding schools being locked down, guns in schools, school shootings, etc. None are true.
We ask that you please be responsible and not post information unless you have first hand knowledge.
Be safe!
