Parking Changes To Start This Week At Eppley

There are some big shake-ups coming this week in parking at Omaha's Eppley Airfield.

Airport official Tim Conahan says two lots will be closed to public parking starting Thursday, April 13th. "Our surface lot, located just north of the current parking garage, will be closed. We're also gonna be closing our canopy lot to public parking, which is located just south of the terminal."

Conahan says both lots will be closed to the public starting April 13th at 9:00 PM.

The lots will be closed to accommodate construction of the new, $66 million, 3,000 car capacity parking structure at Eppley.

Construction on the six story structure begins in May and will be located just north of the current garage where the surface lot and rental car facilities are currently located.

Conahan says during construction all rental car operations will be temporarily relocated to the canopy lot, causing the closure to public parking. "They will operate out of the canopy lots until the construction period is over. Where then, the rental cars will take over the first two floors of the new parking structure."

The existing parking garage, as well as the north and south long-term parking lots, will still be available for public parking.

The new parking garage will have public parking on levels three through six and is expected to be completed in two years.
