Two Tornadoes Confirmed In Bellevue

The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes hit in Bellevue on Friday evening, causing significant damage.

The tornadoes were ranked as EF-2 and EF-1 on a scale to 5.  The EF-2 tornado, with winds up to 135 miles per hour began at 8:05 p.m. about 2 miles southwest of Offutt Air Force base.

The NWS says the tornado went 9.3 miles and did extensive damage to homes in Pipers Glen, Hyda Hills and Normandy Hills. Some homes were completely destroyed.

The other tornado began at 8:08 p.m near Willow Lakes Golf Course and covered a path of 3 miles, ending near Champions VIllage at 8:13 p.m.  The EF1 had winds up to 110 miles per hour.

The reports are preliminary and the NWS will continue to look at evidence from the storm activity to be sure of their initial findings.
