Omaha Police Begin Fireworks Enforcement

In an effort to crack down on illegal fireworks and curfew complaints, the department will be conducting nightly city-wide fireworks enforcement operations from June 28th to July 4th.

A sergeant and four officers will be dedicated to respond to fireworks complaints.  Consumer grade fireworks can only be set off between the hours of 8 am - 11 pm through July 4th.

Officer Michael Pecha says most of the complaints are for fireworks that are set off after 11:00 at night. He says while they want people to have a good time celebrating the Fourth of July, "they need to be respectful of their neighbors."

Fireworks safety is also be being stressed.  Police say they have already seen several injuries due to fireworks.
