Bond Set For Woman Accused Of Hauling 460 Pounds Of Pot

The attorney for a California woman arrested for hauling drugs in Omaha says his client was unaware there was 462 pounds of pot in her trailer.

Bond was set Friday at $500,000 for 31 year old Ebony Douglas.  Douglas was arrested early Wednesday afternoon.  She was driving a Chevy Tahoe eastbound on I-80, towing a U-Haul trailer when Douglas County deputies pulled her over for a traffic violation.

A K-9 indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle and a subsequent search turned up 462 pounds of suspected pot and hundreds of vials of suspected hash oil.

Her attorney, James Martin Davis, says prosecutors have it all wrong. Davis says Douglas was headed to Michigan to visit an aunt who was having bypass surgery and was asked by a friend to pull the trailer to Chicago for $500.

Davis said, "It appears that somebody deliberately took advantage of her." "Little did she know that there was 400 pounds of marijuana in it."

Douglas could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted.   A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 24th.
