Two Hospitalized After House Explosion

Two people were taken to the hospital after a house explosion near 46th and Q Sunday evening. One victim was critically injured.

When firefighters arrived they were told by a person in front of the house that there had been an explosion and people were trapped.  A neighbor assisted firefighters in assisting the victims.

Omaha Battalion Fire Chief Keith Main says, "The foundations were really bowed out. There was an explosion. We're not sure what caused the explosion. Crews had to work around a lot of debris. There's a lot of debris. A lot of damage on the back of the house as well as the basement."

Main says the person who was critically injured was found in the basement.  They were able to rescue that person through a window.  Another person, located on the first floor, was transported for treatment of less serious injuries. A third person was treated on the scene but not taken to the hospital.

At least half a dozen Omaha fire engines and rescue vehicles were on-scene within minutes.
