Preparations Begin For Omaha's New Year's Fireworks Show

Omahans will get a second chance to delcare their New Year's resolutions Saturday night.  One week after it was postponed due to the extreme cold, the City's New Year's fireworks spectacular is set for 7:00 Saturday night at the Gene Leahy Mall.

Ted Kallhoff with J & M Displays says a team of 8-10 employees will begin setting up the fireworks near Heartland of America Park on Friday.  He says the nearly nine minute show will deliver a lot of ooh's and ahh's.  "There's over 80 large shells the size of basketballs and they will go up in the air 800 to 900 feet," Kallhoff says.  "There's quite a few other smaller shells also."

The display will be visible from anywhere in the downtown area and on the Council Bluffs side of the river.  Mayor Jean Stothert and other guests will begin the event with a brief ceremony followed by a countdown to the 7:00 fireworks celebration.
