The semi driver killed in a crash on I-80 earlier this week has been identified.
Authorities say the truck driver killed in the crash near Beaver Crossing Wednesday is 30 year old Mitchell Quandt of Yutan, Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Quandt was killed when his eastbound semi hit the back of a Mercedes SUV on I-80. The eighteen-wheeler then crossed the median into westbound traffic and collided head-on with another semi. Quandt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the westbound semi, 73 year old Claudio Maurelia of Inverness, Illinois, was transported to a hospital in York, but is expected to recover.
The driver of the SUV was not injured. Westbound I-80 was shut down for about three hours after the crash.
