Piece Of Toast Helps Convict Man Of Murder

A Douglas County jury has convicted Leandre Jennings III for the murder of 50 year old Michael Brinkman at his west Omaha home nearly two years ago.

Jennings was convicted of First Degree Murder; Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person.

Brinkman was shot to death during a robbery at his house near 181st and Q on December 23, 2016. Jennings and another man, who has not been caught, rushed into the house and shot the Omaha businessman

Prosecutors said evidence left behind led them to Jennings. Police found three shell casings, a Santa-type hat, some French fries and a piece of Texas toast with a bite out of it.

The toast was swabbed for DNA and that led authorities to Jennings.
