WWII Veteran Laid To Rest In Council Bluffs After Decades Of Unknowns

After 77 years, the remains of a U.S. serviceman were found and laid to rest in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

Navy Fireman First Class Bert McKeeman was 25 years old when he was assigned to the battleship U.S.S. Oklahoma in Pearl Harbor during WWII. The ship was attacked by Japaneses aircraft, killing 429 crewmen.

Family and friends gathered in McKeeman's hometown of Council Bluffs for the fallen soldier's service, happy to know their loved one was finally accounted for. McKeeman was laid to rest near his parents.

It took decades for scientists to develop technology that can help identify veteran's remains.
