One man is behind bars and a number of others cited following a brawl between a half dozen people.
Lincoln Police say just before 4:00 Thursday afternoon, officers were called to the area of 26th and Randolph Street for reports of an in-progress assault involving numerous people, including one who had a knife.
When officers arrived, they contacted several victims and witnesses. According to multiple corroborating accounts, the argument began when 19 year old McKenzie Cooley started arguing with a 42 year old female victim about her boyfriend, 48 year old Charles Schlick, being a registered sex offender.
The victim said Cooley spit on her and punched her in the head, causing a bump and a red mark on the top left side of her forehead, to which Cooley admitted to. As Cooley and the victim were fighting Schlick approached Cooley carrying a knife and then struck her in the face with the handle of the knife. Cooley sustained redness and swelling above her left eye.
When Schlick assaulted Cooley, Cooley’s father, 40 year old Lance Cooley, and 40-year-old Christi Shipp began punching and kicking Schlick.
Officers cited and released McKenzie Cooley, Lance Cooley and Christi L. Shipp for misdemeanor assault. Officers cited and arrested Charles Schlick for Second Degree Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.
