Waterloo is no longer an island.Water levels have gone down and residents are finally able to get out.Many have been stranded since last Thursday due to Elkhorn River flooding and damaged roads.
Some people who decided to stay instead of evacuate say if they knew then what they know now.
Mark Aschenbrenner told 6 News, "When they said its gonna flood, you know, my past experience, we'd be able to get in and out. There would be a foot of water over the road so we didn't really panic. I had no clue it would be what it was."
This time it was much different and the roads in and out of town were under six feet of water.
Cars were leaving the community at a fast clip After getting the word that it was safe to leave Waterloo many headed to the grocery store to stock up.
