Woman Beaten In Carjacking At Omaha's Miller Park

A woman was seriously injured after she was beaten and knocked to the ground during a carjacking Monday night at Miller Park.

Omaha Police say the woman was getting into her car around 6:30 when a group of people jumped her, stole her things and got away with her Jeep Cherokee.

"They targeted her because she was by herself," a witness told 6 News. He said the woman had just finished nine holes at Steve Hogan Golf Course when the attack happened.

"She got jumped behind the pavilion when she went to her car by four or five boys and girls." The man says he tags along with a group of women golfers every Monday to prevent cases like this one. "It happened before. That's not the first time. That's why we're out here with the women just to make sure they're okay," he said.

Sarpy County deputies located the stolen jeep, along with several suspects Monday night near Interstate 80 and Highway 31, not far from the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall in Gretna.

The attack of the woman comes after Omaha Police announced they arrested five teens for a string of recent carjackings throughout the metro.

"It does seem like it's ballooning-up a little bit, but I don't know. I couldn't tell you right now any specific reason," Sgt. Danny Flynn told 6 News.

Police are asking that people to avoid walking alone if possible and stay alert. "We're at a golf course. You'd think it's somewhere you should be safe, but you've always got to be cautious where you're at. Just know your surroundings," Flynn says.

The woman attacked Monday night is in the hospital with serious injuries.
