Bellevue Police Name Officer Involved In Deadly Shooting

Bellevue police released the name of the officer that shot and killed a man during a domestic disturbance call Thursday evening as Officer Cody Albrecht. He has been with the Bellevue Police Department since February of 2016. Officer Albrecht remains on paid administrative leave, per department procedure.

Bellevue Police were dispatched to a home near 29th and Sandra Street for a domestic violence investigation around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27th. A female called 911 to report that her significant other was intoxicated, armed with a firearm and suicidal.

While responding, officers were told that shots were fired on scene. Once officers arrived, they heard shots fired from the direction of the home. An officer removed a female from the home. An officer discharged his firearm, striking a male party who was armed with a gun. 33 year old Matthew Smith of Bellevue was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The La Vista Police Department is leading the investigation. The Douglas County Crime Lab is assisting. This incident remains under investigation.
