BOYS TOWN, Nebraska - The Boys Town community is mourning the death of 48 year old Fire Chief John Sing. Sing passed away Monday and the cause of death is not known.
6 News reports that Sing started his career in firefighting in Denver but was soon offered a position with the Boys Town Fire Brigade.
Waterloo and Douglas County Rural Fire Chief Travis Harlow told 6 News, "My heart is broken for his family and the Boys Town Fire Department members. He was such a leader and mentor to so many in the fire service no matter serving on Boys Town Fire or a part of the Tri-Mutual Aid area."
Sing started the Fire Cadet Program while at Boys Town and also played a big role in the Fire and Safety Department.
An autopsy is pending.
