Early Morning Fire Heavily Damages Omaha Home

Omaha Fire investigators say unattended candles are to blame for an early morning housefire that heavily damaged a one-and-a-half story home.

Firefighters were called to 2124 Evans St. around 5:30, and when they pulled up, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the place.

They also found people who had safely escaped the burning home. No injuries were reported, though several cats perished.

The fire was brought under control in a half hour; The Red Cross has been helping those who were displaced.
