Douglas County records 17th coronavirus death

Douglas County continues to add more COVID-19 coronavirus cases as an additional death in the county is reported.

On Wednesday, the Health Department added 145 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been received since midday on Monday when the last numbers were compiled. That brings the total number of cases in the county to 1,108 since the start of the outbreak.

The health department also reported another COVID-19 related death on Wednesday. They say the county's 17th coronavirus death is that of a man in his 40's.

As of Tuesday night, local hospitals reported 519 medical surge beds were available and 84 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of the 347 ventilators available to area hospitals, 101 were in use, including sixteen for coronavirus patients. The health department has confirmed that 106 county residents have recovered from the illness.

DCHD says masks and social distancing remain vitally important as the county moves forward in the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. Health Director Dr. Adi Pour says the public’s help is needed to make reopening a success, as the disease is still in the community. She is asking everyone to follow this simple rule. “Stay home if you’re sick.”
