Fire Dangers Come In With High Winds

South winds will become northwesterly Wednesday afternoon with increasing velocity.

Gusts to 45 mph greatly increase the fire danger leading to "Red Flag Warnings" from the National Weather Service.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly.

"First Alert Weather's" Rusty Lord says strong winds, low humidity and dry vegetation will create conditions for any fires to get out of control.

Any open burning is strongly discouraged, with burn bans in place including Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie Counties, plus Cass County, Nebraska.
