Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning to retire

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning is hanging up his badge and gun, and will retire at the end of the year.

This week, Dunning announced that after 26 years as Douglas County's Sheriff, he would retire at the age of 71. Dunning's last day as Sheriff will be December 31st. He is recommending Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler as his replacement.

The Douglas County Board will appoint Dunning's replacement, as he is leaving his post with two years left in his current four year term.
