Douglas County Health Department launches new COVID vaccine site

(Douglas County, NE) -- The Douglas County Health Department has launched an online notification system for individuals 65 years of age and over who want to know when the COVID-19 vaccine is available for them.

If you are in that age group, and want to be on a list to be informed about vaccine availability, just go to DCHD’s website at www.douglascountyhealth.com and look for the button on the home page that says “COVID-19 Vaccine Sign-Up List.”

DCHD says a soft launch over the weekend saw nearly 1,900 add their names. Putting your name on the list only confirms you will be informed when the vaccine becomes available, it is not an appointment for a vaccination.

DCHD and local healthcare systems are expected to complete Phase 1-A of vaccine roll out by the end of January. That includes healthcare workers and long-term care staff and residents. Once that is complete, the department will move to Phase 1-B starting with individuals who are 65 and older. They will be given priority registration before others who are included within the scope of 1-B, such as critical industry workers who can’t work remotely, and those at high risk for severe illness.

Once DCHD is finished with phase 1-A, they will be sending e-mails to those 65-and over who signed up for status updates, notifying them that they can then make an appointment to get vaccinated. That email will include a link to the site to make an appointment.

The site will show the various locations where you can receive your vaccination and allow you to make an appointment at your preferred location at available times. The new system will be online, but DCHD is working to accommodate those with limited access to a computer as well.
