(Omaha, NE) -- The City of Omaha announces the roll out of two features of the FCC trash collection program.
The city says on Friday, FCC Environmental announced that they will begin implementing a cart exchange program and when their free Spring yard waste collection will be.
Late last year, FCC delivered 96-gallon trash and recycling carts for customers for a 90-day trial period. The city says a cart exchange program is now open for residents who would prefer a smaller cart for their trash and recycling. The smaller carts hold 48 gallons.
For those wishing to request the smaller carts, you can visit this website to fill out a form. Residents can also call the Solid Waste Hotline at 402-444-5238 from 8:00 AM-7:30 PM Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM-noon on Saturdays. Requests can be made until March 31st. Delivery of the new carts is expected to begin in May.
The city's contract with FCC also includes free, unlimited yard waste collection for six weeks each year in the Spring and Fall. On Friday, FCC announced that their Spring collection will run from May 17th through June 25th. The city says during this time, yard waste in brown yard waste bags placed next to trash carts will be picked up on your normal trash collection day. Yard waste in other containers will not be accepted.
Yard waste can be placed in the 96-gallon carts for collection year round, otherwise, FCC also offers a sticker program for yard waste collection. Yard waste bags with the pre-paid $2 sticker will be collected on regular trash collection days.
