A veteran volunteer firefighter/paramedic dies in the line of duty at the scene of a large Washington County brushfire on Wednesday.
In a tweet, the Ponca Hills Fire Department says Dennis Bender passed away as the result of a medical emergency.
The Department says he had served Ponca Hills Fire and that community in the north part of the Metro for 50 years, and was among the first certified paramedics in the state of Nebraska.
In fact, Dennis Bender was the senior paramedic in Nebraska.
