(Douglas County, NE) -- Douglas County's Health Director announces her retirement.
At Wednesday morning's county health board meeting, Dr. Adi Pour announced that she plans to retire at the end of June. "I've thought about this a lot over the last year."
Pour has served as the county's health director since 2002. "I think the time is right. This department is strong." The health director has spent the past year not only dealing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but also dealt with death threats due to her decision to take COVID precautions by ordering businesses to close at the start of the pandemic last Spring.
"Dr. Pour has guided us through the most significant public health crisis in our lifetime with medical expertise and compassion, always putting the health and safety of our community first. She has become a mentor, partner and friend as we work together to navigate the unfamiliar threat of Covid-19. Thank you Dr. Pour for nearly 20 years as the Douglas County Health Director; that is a tremendous commitment to public service. I appreciate your service to our citizens." - Mayor Jean Stothert
A search committee will find Pour's replacement. The job opening will be posted nationally soon, then three or four finalists will be selected to take over the position. The committee will include County Health Board members Chris Rodgers, Jeanee Weiss, Selene Espinoza and Dr. Marlene Wilken. Other committee members include Jeff Prochaka with Methodist Health Systems, OPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Logan, Dr. Maureen Tierney with the Creighton University School of Medicine, Children's Hospital CEO and President Chanda Chacon and Dr. David Palm with the UNMC College of Public Health.
