Pott County Property Assessments Soar

For the first time in recent history, home values in Pottawattamie County are skyrocketing.

Residents on Facebook are seeking information about increases, some of which are as high as 55-thousand dollars.

County Assessor Penny Ravlin tells 6 News there are several factors.

“It depends on your location, it depends on the last time we visited your property, depends on if we find improvements that we didn’t have to your property, if you’re out in the county it could be a different increase versus in town, those properties out in the county are selling a little higher with a lower tax rate,” she said.

And while the pandemic has resulted in lower interest and mortgage rates, demand remains high.

The county website has information on how to protest the increased assessment here.
