Omaha City Election Results

(Omaha, NE) -- Polls have closed in the city of Omaha, where four challengers are competing with incumbent Mayor Jean Stothert in the primary. Over 53-thousand voters have already returned their ballots, making this election likely to have the highest turnout in decades.

There are also 7 city council seats up for grabs. If Democrats can win one more seat, they will have a veto-proof majority over the mayor. The top two vote-getters in each district and in the mayor's race will advance to a general election on May 11.

Early results will be posted by the Douglas County Election Commission to their website at closing time. We'll have more updates here as the night unfolds.

Mayor of Omaha

  • Incumbent mayor Jean Stothert and four challengers are running on the same ballot.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Jean Stothert leads with 59%, followed by RJ Neary with 15%.

Omaha City Council District 1

  • Incumbent councilmember Pete Festersen faces three challengers.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Pete Festersen leads with 56%, followed by Sarah Johnson with 23%.

Omaha City Council District 2

  • Incumbent councilmember Ben Gray faces six challengers.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Ben Gray leads with 40%, followed by Juanita Johnson with 22%.

Omaha City Council District 3

  • There are four candidates running to succeed retiring councilmember Chris Jerram.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Danny Begley leads with 40%, followed by Cammy Watkins with 35%.

Omaha City Council District 4

  • Incumbent councilmember Vinny Palermo faces three challengers.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Vinny Palermo leads with 48%, followed by Becky Barrientos-Patlan with 23%.

Omaha City Council District 5

  • Incumbent councilmember Colleen Brennan faces six challengers.
  • The top two candidates will advance to a May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Don Rowe leads with 21%, followed by Kathleen Kauth at 19%.

Omaha City Council District 6

  • Incumbent councilmember Brinker Harding faces only one challenger.
  • Both Harding and his challenger, Naomi Hattaway, will move on to the May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Harding is leading 64-36.

Omaha City Council District 7

  • Incumbent councilmember Aimee Melton faces only one challenger.
  • Both Melton and her challenger, Sara Kohen, will move on to the May 11 general election. As of 10:45pm, Melton is leading 52-48.
