Omaha woman's death investigated as a homicide

(Omaha, NE) -- An Omaha woman's death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Omaha Police Department says just after 100:00 Sunday night, officers were called to an apartment near 28th and Mason with a report of CPR in progress on a 22 year old woman. Investigators say the woman, Shaleigh Sovey, had suffered a head injury, and was taken to Nebraska Medicine with serious, life-threatening injuries.

OPD says at the time a suspect, 22 year old Devon Engel, was booked in to Douglas County Corrections on charges of 1st Degree Domestic Violence Assault and two counts of Felony Child Abuse/Neglect.

Police say on Tuesday, Sovey died from her injuries. OPD says following Sovey's death, the case was turned over to their Homicide Unit for further investigation.
