(Omaha, NE) -- An Omaha police sergeant is considering running for Douglas County sheriff next year.

Aaron Hanson works in the gang unit of OPD. He is also the legislative liaison for the police union.

Chief Deputy Wayne Hudson has said he will more than likely run as well. The position is open after previous sheriff Tim Dunning retired in December. The acting sheriff, Tom Wheeler, said he would not run.

The primary for sheriff is May 10 of next year.
