The Bill Moos Era in Lincoln is coming to an end.
In a statement Friday morning, Nebraska Athletics says Moos will retire next week after a total of 25 years as a Division One college athletics director.
"To understand just how special Nebraska is, you need to spend time here, meet our people, visit our cities and towns and sit in Memorial Stadium in a sea of red on a Saturday afternoon in the fall," Moos said in a statement on Husker.com. "I step away completely content, knowing that our athletic program is reborn and rebuilt and that it has a solid, stable foundation."
Moos took over as Nebraska Athletics Director in October, 2017 after serving in a similar role at his alma mater, Washington St. University, where he played intercollegiate football in Pullman for the Cougars.
Among his moves were the high profile hires of Scott Frost as football coach, Fred Hoiberg as mens' hoops coach and Will Bolt as Big Red baseball coach.
His contract was to run until the end of 2022.
