Alisha Shelton announces bid for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District seat

(Omaha, NE) -- An Omaha mental health practitioner and counselor announces her bid for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District seat.

On Tuesday, Democrat Alisha Shelton announced that she will challenge Republican Congressman Don Bacon in the 2022 election. Shelton, who was raised in Omaha, says she is running for Congress in Nebraska’s 2nd district because, "Nebraskans need someone looking out for them." Shelton previously threw her hat into the political ring when she ran against Republican Senator Ben Sasse in the 2020 election.

“I’m running for Congress because working Nebraskans need good jobs, affordable health care, and higher wages. Growing up, my mom would say, ‘We have to pay attention. When somebody needs us, we have to be there for them.’ That has been my mantra my whole life. I’ve been paying attention, and I see that so many hard-working families in Nebraska are ready for a brighter future. As a therapist, I always do whatever I can to help my patients; and that’s the same approach I’ll bring to Congress.”
