OPPD With Cautious Estimates Of Power Restoration

The Omaha Public Power District says it has a goal of 95% power restoration by 11:59 p.m. Monday; 99% restoration by midnight Tuesday; 100% completion by Friday at 11:59 p.m., but that certainly may vary;

They caution this effort may be similar to past storm patterns because final restoration relies on coordination from customers, OPPD and the availability of local electricians.

The utility says in some cases with wires deeply entangled in damaged trees, many customers will have restoration stretch longer.

At its peak, the storm left 188,000 customers without power.

The utility reports this weekend’s storm is the largest in OPPD history, topping epic ones in 2017, 2008 and the 1997 October ice storm.

OPPD says on its first restoration day on Saturday, crews restored more than 75,000 customers’ power, more than all the outages that were restored following the 2017 Father’s Day tornado.
