Busy Time For Nebraska Corrections Officers

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is carrying out contraband searches Friday as the investigation continues into a prison fight at the Lincoln Corrections Center Thursday they say involved eleven inmates.

Corrections says four inmates needed medical treatment, two with serious injuries.

The fight was broken up with pepper spray, and the facility was put on lockdown for several hours afterward.

It will remain on modified operations through the weekend, and inmate visits will be canceled during that time.

Results of the investigation will be turned over to the Lancaster County Attorney for determination of possible criminal charges.

Meantime, an inmate is missing from a separate facility in the Capital City, the Community Corrections Center - Lincoln.

Investigators say 54-year old Melvin Grimes left the facility Thursday morning.

He was sentenced to two years for a number of counts of shoplifting out of Douglas County. Grimes has a tentative release date of December 10th, 2021.
