NPPD crews heading to Louisiana to assist in power restoration

(Columbus, NE) -- Nebraska Public Power District crews are making their way Louisiana to help after Hurricane Ida knocked out power to more than 2 million people there.

Hurricane Ida is slowly moving out of Louisiana and into neighboring southern states after making landfall Sunday morning. 16 line technicians and supervisory staff from NPPD will be hitting the road at noon Tuesday, headed to Baton Rouge to provide mutual aid and restore power in a state that was devastated by the Category 4 hurricane.

The contingent from NPPD has commited to spending two weeks assisting in restoring power for Entergy, which is one of the primary electric providers in Louisiana. Entergy has approximately 1.3 million customers and as of Monday afternoon had over 822,000 customers without power due to downed power lines and structures. NPPD crews are expected to arrive Thursday to begin assistance.
