(Undated) -- Nebraska congressman Jeff Fortenberry pleads not guilty to three federal charges.

Fortenberry, a Republican from Lincoln, is charged with concealing information and lying to federal agents about illegal campaign contributions.

Fortenberry appeared via videoconferencing at an arraignment today. His attorney claims he was misled by the FBI while being questioned and that the charges are a political hit-job meant to destroy his reputation.

Prosecutors moved to have Fortenberry barred from communicating with witnesses in the case, saying they were concerned he would use his power to tamper with the case. Fortenberry's attorney said it was irrational to bar communication with witnesses, saying some of them are employees of the congressman.

Fortenberry will face trial on December 14th.
