(Omaha, NE) -- Residents in the Omaha area may see a low-flying helicopter over the next few days.

Omaha Public Power District says starting Friday, they are conducting aerial surveys of transmission lines and equipment. The power district says during this time, people may notice a helicopter hovering in the proximity of power lines within the Omaha area and south toward Nebraska City. The surveys are expected to take between two and three days to complete.

OPPD says they complete this specific type of survey annually to examine transmission line clearances. It’s conducted to meet regulatory requirements, as well as to provide modeling for the utility’s planning purposes. The precise schedule and flight is subject to weather conditions.
