(Omaha, NE) -- A man investigators say set a south Omaha home on fire makes his first court appearance on Wednesday.
39 year old Salomon Lopez Escobar is charged with first-degree arson and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Court documents show that video evidence from the scene shows a man going up to a house near 24th & Q and pouring liquid from a gas can onto the porch and steps of the home. Investigators say the person then left the house, went to a store to buy a lighter, then returned to the home to set it on fire.
WOWT 6 News reports that while on the scene of the fire, their reporters were told two adults and two children were in the home when it was set on fire. No injuries were reported.
The night of the fire, an Omaha Police officer spotted someone near 24th and L streets who matched the suspect description. The person matching the suspect description, Escobar, was taken in for questioning but refused to answer any questions. An affidavit shows that Escobar was carrying a gas can when he was taken in. He faces 1-50 years if found guilty. Escobar is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 31.
