Bellevue Police: Bryan High student brought gun to school

(Bellevue, NE) -- A Bryan High School student reportedly brought a gun to school.

Bellevue Police say just after 9:00 Wednesday morning, the assigned School Resource Officer at Bryan High School was requested by Omaha Public School Security, to assist with detaining a student. BPD says the student was actively, physically resisting the security guards. Investigators say the 16 year old male student was eventually taken into custody without any further incident. BPD says a search of the teen uncovered a loaded handgun.

BPD says the student is currently in custody and is being held at the Douglas County Youth Correctional Facility. Investigators say there is no indication at this time to believe that the teen brought the handgun to school to harm any students or staff members. The student was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Handgun by a Prohibited Person, Possession of a Weapon on School Property, and Possession of Stolen Property.

The investigation is ongoing.
