OPD, NSP release St. Patrick's Day special enforcement results

(Omaha, NE) -- The Omaha Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol release the results of their special St. Patrick's Day enforcement efforts.

Both the OPD and NSP's campaigns focused on alcohol related violations and ran March 16th - March 18th.

Omaha Police say a total of 257 citations and 34 arrests were issued during extra traffic enforcement operations. The following are some highlights of those operations:

  • Speeding / Reckless / negligent Driving - 84
  • DUI / DUI drug arrests - 11
  • Registration / insurance - 81
  • Other moving violations - 49
  • Driving during suspension / license violations - 21

The Nebraska State Patrol says their troopers removed a dozen impaired drivers from the road as part of a special enforcement effort around St. Patrick’s Day. In total, the NSP says troopers arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence. Troopers also issued citations for:

  • Speeding - 144
  • Open alcohol container - 9
  • Minor in possession of alcohol - 7
  • Driving under suspension - 8
  • No seat belt - 3
  • Improper child restraint - 2

Troopers also performed 98 motorist assists during the grant period.
